Effect of Carbon Support on the Electrocatalytic Properties of Pt-Ru Catalysts

Effect of Carbon Support on the Electrocatalytic Properties of Pt-Ru Catalysts

Invited for this month’s coverpicture at CHEMELTROCHEM are the groups of Alexandros Katsaounisat the Departmentof Chemical Engineering (Universityof Patras,Greece) and Costas Galiotis also at the same department and the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT,Greece). The coverpicture shows schematically the operation of a Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) under hydrogen feeding. The metallic phase of the electrodes (usually Pt and Ru) is usually dispersed on a carbon-based support. Novel carbon materials (such as carbon nanotubes, biochar and graphene) are used in this study as alternative supports and compared with the state-of-the-art VulcanXC-72.
